Timetable for Success

A suggested timetable for motivated students
Mid November Finalize agreement with a faculty mentor
Begin working in lab, if not already doing so!
Nov. 19-25 Thanksgiving Break (do some project reading over break!)
Nov. 26

Classes resume. Stop by Office of Undergraduate Research to pick up an LS UROP application.

Attend graduate school and fellowships workshop.

Dec. 4 Stop by Office of Undergraduate Research to pick up an LS UROP application.
Dec. 5 Attend "LS UROP Applications Suggestions Workshop" from 4-5 p.m. in 572 Bond Life Sciences Center.
Dec. 5

Finalize your “assignment” over the holiday break with your advisor. Typically this would include doing background readings to inform yourself of the different project options you could have. If you already have a project, then you can start preparing your first draft of your project proposal. Remember . . . this is “student driven”. . . don't expect your mentor to actually “assign” homework to you . . . it is your responsibility to discuss with your mentor how you can best spend your time over the holiday break preparing for your LS UROP application.

Dec. 6 Last day of classes
Dec. 12

Start to ask faculty to write letters of recommendation.

Dec. 14 Last day of exams. Remember, grades ARE an important part of the LS UROP application process . . . don't forget to study!
Dec. 19 Check in with your mentor via e-mail during break. Share your proposal draft during break.
Jan. 20 Classes begin again.
Jan. 23 Meet with your mentor to finalize your project topic (and/or turn in a first draft of your proposal, if you have not done so. )
Formally request letters of recommendation, if you have not already done so.
Jan. 24 Attend "LS UROP Applications Suggestions Workshop" from 4-5 p.m. in 572 Bond Life Sciences Center.
Jan. 30

Share your project draft with your mentor (if you have not done so already! Hopefully you already have shared a first and second draft by now!).
Share your personal statement with your mentor and ask for feedback (this also helps him/her write your letter of recommendation).
Gather together other materials (transcript, application, etc.).
Confirm recommendation letters are being prepared/sent with faculty members who are writing letters.

Feb. 4 Attend "LS UROP Applications Suggestions Workshop" from 4-5 p.m. in 572 Bond Life Sciences Center.
Feb. 6 Finalize your project draft with your mentor.
Feb. 14 LS UROP applications are DUE by 5 p.m. in 150 Life Sciences Center!
